Profile – Vijay Mukhi

 

Vijay Mukhi (vmukhi@vsnl.com) is an engineer from one of the best engineering colleges - VJTI in India. He started his own computer training institute ‘Vijay Mukhi’s Computer Institute’ in the year 1989 to teach students the latest in technologies. Prior to this, he was training chartered accountants in Mumbai on computerizing their work using the then prevalent ‘Dbase 4’ and Foxpro 2.0. Vijay cut his teeth with CPM and MS-DOS.

 

For a very long period, Vijay focused on his courses on C-Windows programming, Ole, MFC classes, Powerbuilder-Visual Basic at his training institute. Then, with the advent of the Internet and Java, he modified the course structure to include networking technologies, which covered the bits and bytes of the internet protocols. Being a hardcore programmer himself, it was very comfortable switching on to Java and then to the current .Net technologies. At present, he conducts a course on ‘Writing and Securing .Net Applications’ for software professionals at his institute. He also conducts in-house training programs in Java , .Net and e-security for various corporate houses and financial institutions.

 

Along with training, he started writing his own books. Vijay, at present, is the author of about 80 technical books. These books are available in international markets as well. His books range from C, C++, Foxpro 2.0, Unix to   Animation, Powerbuilder, Java and finally to the .Net Odyssey Series. The best seller has been his 7-book series ‘ The C Odyssey Series’ which is widely recommended by all engineering colleges in India. His forte has always been C,C++ nevertheless, he also mastered other programming languages be it Perl, PHP, Java, C#.  His remarkable achievement has been the 12 book series on .Net Technologies under the ‘.Net Odyssey Series’ in the year 2001-2002. These books are translated in the Japanese language for the Japanese market and will be available in English as well. His recent columns and books are available on www.e-chishiki.com. Vijay abhors complexities and hence his books showcase the most difficult concepts in a simplified form through small programs.

 

Other than training and writing books, Vijay is the lead developer for an e-security product ‘Helios’ which incorporates rootkit and malware detection on the Windows Operating System. Various compliance modules are added to this product as well. He is a certified Lead Auditor ISO27001:2005.

 

Today, Vijay is the President of a body called FIST, Foundation of Information Security and Technology, which aims at finding resolutions to all security related problems and updating various sections of the society on cyber crime and cyber safety.

 

Vijay is also a Member of High Court/State Government Committee on Pornography and Cyber Laws. He has been successively designated Co-Chair of the Cyber Safety Week – a joint effort of Mumbai Police and Nasscom, for the last 3 years. Further, he chairs The IT Committee at FICCI and has been designated the post of Chairman for The IT Committee at Indian Merchant Chambers(IMC) since the last 3 years.

 

A Past President of The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE-Mumbai), and The National Association of Computer Trainers (NACT), he is also a co-founder of the Internet Users Community of India (IUCI).
